Atlanta, GA: Terminal West

Superchunk w/The Rock*A*Teens

Is there a 90's Indie rock revival going on? It sure seems that way over the last couple of years. The first time I saw The Rock*A*Teens they were opening for Superchunk at the old Cotton Club in Midtown Atlanta in the mid-late 90s. I wound up seeing these bands together a lot back in the day.  Mack even mentioned during the show that they played with The Rock*A*Teens probably more than any other band. I didn't know that but was not surprised.

The Rock*A*Teens - great sounding set. 1st of 3 shows with Superchunk. Lot's of new songs from their forthcoming album on Merge. Anna Kramer joined them for additional guitar and vocals. JD pulled out some slide guitar work as well.

Superchunk - Dare I say this was the best show in years. At least, that’s what I’m thinking as I'm writing. Other than a road trip to Birmingham, AL, a few months ago to see them - it had been at least 4 or 5 years since they played Atlanta. The band is currently touring their wonderful "What A Time To Be Alive" LP that hearkens back to the energy of their early years yet also feels surprisingly fresh & new. Lots of surprises I didn’t expect to hear from No Pocky For Kitty & On The Mouth LPs. These classics paired well with all the new songs. "Everybody likes the fast songs" remarked Mack at some point. Yes, we do! Onward...
