Atlanta  - Variety Playhouse

This was the last show we saw by Charles Bradley & His Extraordinaires.  There are not enough words to express the power & love of this man. It goes without saying that it was a great show. A bit shorter than many times we have seen him before. I had wondered if maybe the road had been catching up a bit. This show was the 1st after their stop at SXSW just a week or so before.

A big focal point of the show was Charles's cover of Black Sabbath's "Changes" which featured a long introduction focusing on his mom. She had recently passed away. The emotional impact was overwhelming. As many people know, there are times when someone covers another artist's song and makes it their own.  This is very much the case. Much like Johnny Cash's version of the Nine Inch Nails song "Hurt" - Charles has made this song his own.

I wish my memory was a bit better of the whole show. We were upfront and loved every minute of it. The Extraordinaires were tight and as rock solid as ever.

Here is a setlist from April 6 2017 in Belgium to get an idea of the set of songs they were playing at the time.
